During my tenure at The New Republic - each issue would consist of an ampersand created by varying artists in their own craft. When we redesigned the magazine in 2012, we explored unique ways to visually bridge the features section with the Books & the Arts section. Imagine the delight when we saw our answer right there in front of us. The '&' would become the bridge, a whole page devoted to typography — created by a new artist each issue.

What evolved was an award-winning project that highlighted varying artist and paid hommage to typography as well.
